Chapter 22-Rock Around the Dock Tonight
When I logged back in, Nik informed me that it would be about two days before the arm was ready. That settled my plans for me. I would go the next day to see about hiring shipwrights and then come back the day after for my shiny new arm. After some more discussions with Nik about how he needed to spend some time doing research and acquiring new materials after the arm was finished, I checked on the other crafters and decided to head to the seaside town Alfred told me about so I could get the lay of the land before looking for new hires the next day.
It was called Fairbreeze Town and it was beautiful. There was a small castle made of shining white stone sitting on a cliff to the north of the town which acted almost like a second sun in the sky because of how the light shone off the walls. Curious, I asked a player walking by the auction house as I stood in front of the building. It apparently belonged to a noble of the region who had a significant investment in the town. I filed that away for later in case he became a problem considering my planned purchases.
As for the rest of the town, it was built on a slope that went for several miles down to the waterfront. It was full of small homes and businesses built up against one another. The streets were laid out in an orderly and easy to follow grid, which made it incredibly easy to navigate the town. The auction house was built in a merchant area about halfway up the slope, so it was about a thirty-minute walk down the hill to get to the water.
I decided not to head down for the time being because I just needed to log out and rest. The day had been emotionally draining and I couldnât handle being in the game anymore. I was just too tired. I logged out and slept for the next twelve hours.
The next day I woke up feeling much better, especially knowing Iâd get my new arm the next day. If it wasnât for all the work that needed to be done, I probably would have slept the whole day. Unfortunately, I had to make absolutely sure I could pay the men and women working for me. With that as my only motivation, I made my way down the slope and to the coastline.
The bay containing the harbor was impressive from a distance, but amazing up close. There were no overly large ships docked in the port, but there were several small ships used to ferry personnel between the pier and the large ships waiting in the water farther out, of which there were many. The shape of the bay, a relatively small entrance coming into a larger open area, kept the waters fairly calm. This allowed for a safe place for the ships without having to fill up the entire dock with large ships.
